Fragrance has played a notable part in human history. From ancient Egypt to modern times,the use of perfume has been well documented.

  • 4,000 BC First perfumery in Greece, discovered 6,000 years later.
  • 3500 -3000 BC Egyptians soaked in fragrant oils for pleasure and as protection from the sun.
  • 2,000 BC First recorded perfume maker, Tapputi, distilled flowers, oil, and calamus with other aromatics.
  • 1370 The first modern perfume at the command of Queen Elizabeth of Hungary known throughout Europe as Hungary Water.
  • 1400’s France became the European center of perfume and cosmetic manufacture when cultivation of flowers for their perfume essence grew into a major industry in the south of France until today.
  • 1700’s Perfumes were built on a single-flower like rose, violet, lilac, & lily of the valley, used primarily by royalty and the wealthy to mask body odors resulting from the sanitary practices of the day.
  • 1900’s Modern fragrance revolution begins in US with arrival of European scents.
  • 2000’s Mass production of fragrances begins; fragrance use widely accepted by male and female consumers.
  • 2016 to 2019 - An average of 1,700+ fragrances launched per year! Can you imagine 1,700+ fragrance launched in 1 year!? That's 4 to 5 bottles of perfume being launched EVERYDAY!
